PICTURES of MY PROJECT

Early November 2000

Here's what I started with!

Notice the incorrect CL exhaust, complete lack of anything on the handlebars and every piece of metal is bent or rusted!

December 24, 2000

Completely disassembled the bike, stripped all the paint and rust and began the repainting process. Here's a picture of the frame after spraying on the primer coat.

The picture on the right is kind of busy, but if you look close you can see parts hanging from the bicycle(which is hanging from the ceiling). Bicycles make great paint drying racks!

January 21 2001

After putting so much time into painting the frame, the last thing I wanted was for it to fall over and get scratched. I decided to buy a workmate stand and then mount the lower part of the frame to a 1x12 board using plumbers pipe strap and intertubes.
The picture on the left shows the frame in the stand with the swingarm, batterybox, chainguards and toolbox mounted.

The picture on the right is a closeup of the mounting method.

February 04 2001

The complete front end is now mounted on the bike. There is about 40 hours of work in polishing/rebuilding the triple clamp and fork assembly.

April 04 2001

I picked up a digital camera today. So here's some current pics of the project.

Frame with the wheels, handlebars and speedometer. Check out the cool Renthal pad my son added to the bars!

Here's pictures of the painted bodywork drying in the family room. Looks really shiny and i haven't even rubbed it out yet!

This is the paint that I used. Sandable primer, color and clear coat. All laquers.

April 15 2001

This weekend I disassembled my spare CB350 engine so I could get the cam cain and kick start mechanism out of it.

This is a shot of the crankcase after I opened it up. On the left you can see the crankshaft. On the right you see the two transmission shafts. That's the countershaft sprocket sticking out the side.

The picture above left shows what you can do with a lot of elbow grease and some clear engine enamel to a beat up old engine case. The shiny one is the refurbished SL350 lower case half. The ugly one is from my spare CB350 engine. The picture on the right shows the new kick start mechanism installed in the lower case half.
