Media 100 software
2.6.2
2.6.1
And most likely all the way back to the initial release.
Macintosh Operating System
Version 2.6.2 was tested with System 7.5.3 Rev. 2 This, along with the short list of Macintosh computers, is the totality of information available from the current Media 100 company website about the NuBus system.
Mac OS 9.1, no problems encountered so far. Version 2.6.1 is able to export Quicktime files larger than 2 gigabytes to an HFS+ formatted volume when running in OS 9.1. I've still not tested to see if it can capture in larger than 2 gigabyte "chunks" with OS 9.1.
I'm having a bit of an odd glitch with OS 9.1. I have to start with extentions disabled then use Extentions Manager to move an extention, any one works, out of the Extentions folder then reboot again with extentions disabled then use Extentions Manager to move the extention back. Then it will reboot normally instead of hanging at the Mac OS splash screen. I have no idea why it's doing this. One day it was working fine and I'd restarted several times without problems. The next day it started this and not one thing had been changed in the software. I'll probably have to wipe the System and reinstall to make it stop this. Once I get it booted it works perfectly!
Mac OS 9.2.x, not tested because even though with the latest release of OS9helper it is possible to install it on NuBus PowerMacs, it is highly experimental. OS9helper copies resources from the existing 9.1 install on your Mac and inserts them into the 9.2.x System file. Apple removed those resources because they did not want people installing anything newer than 9.1 onto the NuBus PowerMacs.
Third party software, plugins etc.
This is the section I really want to see fill up!
Plugins included with 2.6.1 are from Adobe Premiere, either tagged version
4.0.1 or n/a. I tried plugins from Premiere 5.1 LE and 5.0 Pro and they were totally
ignored, didn't show up in the transitions list.
Elastic Reality's Transjammer
is supposed to work, I don't have all of it, just the TJServer file,
Transjammer plugin and one effect file. Media 100 sees the Transjammer
plugin but the plugin ignores the effect file. This is version 2.0.
Elastic Reality was bought out by Avid at some point but there's nothing about Transjammer on their site.
Gradient Explorer v1.1 by
Cinetic, Germany. Part of the Gradient Experience. This works
perfectly. All you need is this plugin dropped in the Wipes folder and
you can make 8 bit greyscale PICT files to use for any sort of custom
wipe you can think of.
Even cooler is Pixelan's Video SpiceRack PRO and OrganicFX (Mac) files work with it. Poke around the website to find some free
sample "spices" in NTSC and PAL sizes. They're just 8bit greyscale
PICTs. If you don't figure you're creative enough to make your own,
spend money on Pixelan's collection. ;) I've been trying to find out if
anyone still claims copyright on this plugin. If not, I'll post it here
for download.
