Torri
Hi there, my name is Torri and I am a Brittany spaniel. I am the newest
family member of K-Ha Farm. I feel I have died and went to heaven. As
soon as I got here I found that I could run and run unleashed and free.
As I was running I came across Horses and my favorite of all, a large
pen filled with Red Golden Pheasants. They were so exciting to me that
I just couldn’t pull my self away from them. As it started getting
dark that first night my Human dad had to come get me with a leash to
get me to come in for the night.
The first night in the house is when I really got to know my new doggie
friends. There was Bandit, who is a Sheltie and Nikki which is a Greyhound.
They are both a little older than me so they seem to keep there distance
at first. After checking out every room in my new home and a couple of
rooms twice I started to look for a place to lay down for awhile. Well
to me the best seat in the house was my Human mom and dad’s seat
which is a double recliner so I took a leap and ended up right between
them on the Recliner. They didn’t seem to mind so off to sleep I
went. That night when they went to bed I followed. As soon as I jumped
up on the bed is when I found out there was no way they were going to
let me sleep up here tonight. Well I walked around to the far side of
the bed and Bandit told me I was not allowed to sleep here neither. Nikki
was at the foot of the bed so I wasn’t going to try there. So it
was back to the recliner I went.
The next morning after breakfast I was following Bandit around the house
and he walked up to the kitchen door and went right threw it. I was puzzled.
I cried out, than I barked. I got so excited I hit my nose on the door
and threw I went. Wow, that was cool. I was outside again. After running
around the yard again with in ten minutes I found my Pheasants. I stayed
there all day and into the night. As the sun came up in the morning my
Human dad came out to get me with the leash in his hand. He seemed a little
upset with me because I was out all night and I was very dirty up past
my knees. I ran so much that night that I had a dirt path all around the
Pheasant coup. So after breakfast that morning I was given a bath and
put in a crate for a good four to five hours. I didn’t mind that
at all because all I wanted to do is sleep. Well that afternoon I went
to go outside again to see my Pheasants and when I got to them there was
a little wire running around the Pheasant coup. I walked up and touched
that wire and WOW did that hurt. It stung me. I ran so fast back in the
house and curled up behind a big stuffed dragon that was in Sean’s
room. I stayed there the rest of the day and all night.
Well the next morning after breakfast I remembered that wire and while
out side playing when I saw the Pheasants I would walk the other way.
Now I have found so many other things to keep me busy. I have a mocking
bird nest up in a tree, some wild bunny rabbits, gofer Turtles, sand hill
Cranes, and a whole bunch of other critters to play with. This is life
at it’s best.
Well on a Human note
Hi there, When Kathy and I decided to get another dog we really started
tossing around the breeds. With Kathy’s fifteen years of vet asst.
and six years full time dog grooming it really made my life ruff trying
to suggest a breed. Back some forty years ago my uncle had a Brittany
and it was the coolest dog in the neighborhood. And that’s where
the Brittany idea came from. From Kathy’s point of view it is a
hardy medium size dog with no major breed problems with very little grooming.
Then we had to decide on the sex of the dog. The deciding factor there
was Bandit. Bandit is our nine year old neutered male Sheltie who still
considers him self top dog. So to be fair to Bandit we decided on a spayed
female. Then there was the color, orange and white vs. liver and white
whom we decided on orange and white.
Well we finally made a decision. A orange and white spayed female Brittany
spaniel.
Now we had to find one. I started searching local Breeders and Breeders
through out southeast U.S. Then I came across the
American Brittany Rescue.
After looking at the Brittany’s that were trying to find a home
we decided that would be the way to go. If we could find a Brittany that
was already house broken and through the chewing stage it would save us
a lot of headaches. So I contacted our ABR
state coordinator, and filled out a application. A few weeks later I was
contacted and told they have a dog coming into rescue we may be interested
in. So we set up a appointment to meet her.
Well this was Torri. She was a perfect match to what we put on our application.
She was a two year old orange and white female. She was turned in to rescue
for reasons of family changes. We could tell she had a loving family the
first two years because all she wants to do is be loved on. She is actually
the largest lap dog we have ever had. Torri has turned out to be a great
addition to K-Ha Farm.
