Descanso Gardens Ride

This is a short ride of about 13 miles round trip from my house over moderate hilly terrain, but the roads are covered with a canopy of oak trees and there is minimal traffic with pleasing views of JPL, the Devil's Gate Dam, parts of the Arroyo Seco (Rose Bowl), etc. Beginning from home in Altadena it is downhill to the Arroyo Seco ravine and then uphill through the La Canada and Flintridge areas on Highland to Chevy Chase. Turning north on Chevy Chase and then left on Descanso Drive one soon arrives at Descanso Gardens.

Highland Avenue above Devil's Gate Dam going toward Chevy Chase.

Mt. Wilson as viewed from the beginning of Highland. JPL is on the left and Altadena is on the right below the mountains.

Descanso Drive looking back toward Pasadena. Descanso Gardens is on the right side.

The ride to Descanso Gardens is a quick, enjoyable ride when I do not have much time. However, I usually continue on Descanso Drive to Foothill Blvd. turning left to pass through La Crescenta, Glendale and into Sunland-Tujunga.
