Rolling on the Rivers, California Style

Beach Loop

This ride is typically about 100 to 120 miles from my home in Altadena depending on how many side rides I undertake. I ride surface streets to the Los Angeles Peak Road Water Conservation Park to pickup up the Rio Hondo River Bike Path to the Los Angeles River Bike Path to Long Beach. Continuing south along the beach bikeway and finally Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) into Seal Beach for lunch. Backtracking on PCH, the San Gabriel River Bike Path can be taken north to Duarte and then surface streets and some moderate hill climbs to return to my house.

Los Angeles River Ride

This ride is sponsored by the Los Angeles Bicycle Coalition once a year in May. Year 2001 was the first ride. The ride starts in the parking lot of the Los Angeles Zoo in front of the Gene Autry Museum located in Griffith Park. Not all of the bike path is completed, so a detour is taken from the crossing of the Los Angeles River by the Pasadena Freeway until a point near the City of Maywood.
