Journal Entry: Day One - April 25, Monday

My hike to Darwin Falls is a fitting end to a wonderful day of backcountry exploration and overland vehicular travel. The trail is an easy and level hike for the most part, but as I approached the falls in the restricted canyon with high cliffs, the brush, plant growth, and trees made forward progress tougher. The prize is worth the effort however, as these falls are idyllic in their lush feel, something that the typical traveler of this region would never guess is here to behold. The best things in life are often hidden, and require extra effort to enjoy! There are additional waterfalls above this one, but I won't scramble up the cliffs to reach them today because mom is with me this safari, and waiting for my return at the Panamint Springs Resort a few miles northeast of here. Death Valley National Park is a striking world of unbelievable variety, and it still offers me surprises after 50+ years of exploration.

You may reach me at the following email address. Just type it into your email "to" line as shown below. I no longer use a clickable link due to excessive spam email from companies that scan websites for live email address lines (this causes the victim to be placed on multiple unsolicited email lists that are sold for profit). I apologize for the minimal inconvenience.

Please do not become discouraged if my reply is delayed for a day or two (or perhaps longer). I will reply to all who write as soon as I am able, and I certainly value everyone's input. If I am out of town or on a safari of my own, your reply could be late in coming, but fear not! Unless I fell victim to the elements, you'll be hearing from me eventually - you can count on it. See you on the trail ...
