Dedeckera Canyon narrows, late afternoon, south of Eureka Dunes
Journal Entry: Day One - October 27, Friday Before me lies the most unusual of sights in a land that most believe is dry and barren. Saratoga Spring is the large body of water that I now see, part of the Amargosa River system that emerges from its usual subterranean domain. There are old mining buildings around the area, from an era of talc extraction, with much hiking opportunity to visit the history. To the north I see the Panamint Range on the left, and the Amargosa Range on the right. Not many folks visit this far south in the Park. I just turned off the remote, but easy, Harry Wade road a few miles south. There is a large parking area here because you can't drive to the spring itself ... the walk feels good after miles of highway driving from Baker to get here. Today I see no wildlife here, but I would imagine that this immense water supply must surely be frequented by critters often. Now, I will head on back to Harry's road to continue north towards the old Ashford Mill site.
