A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step--Lao Tsu.
Let your conscience be your guide--Pope
Just a few words of wisdom from some philosophical thinking folks.
I began my RETS Client journey several years ago. Sometime around the early part of 2002, I released the first version of the Open RETS Client (ORC). It supported Login, and Search capabilities and was completely command-line driven – no GUI. Soon after, I included the GetMetadata and GetObject Transactions within the command-line application. Now, after some years, the ORC is undergoing a major re-design. The main objective of this re-design is to provide a graphical user interface to the ORC, such that it becomes easier to set up and manage a customer's Multiple Listing Service data feed. The ultimate goal is to provide the end-user with the ability to use ORC in either the command-line or GUI mode. Coding is proceeding rather slowly, since I can only dedicate part of my time to the project. However, the expectation is that the GUI aspect of the application will be completed shortly.

This project would not have been possible without the continued support of my family. Particularly, my wife, who has allowed me to work late nights and some weekends (on my spare time). I would also like to thank those initial users of the Open RETS Client. Without their feedback (questions, comments and suggestions), this document would probably never have been written. Finally, I would like to give a big thank you to the Center for Realtor Technology (particularly, Mark Lesswing), and a number of pre-release users who were willing to test new features of the ORC during their own time, as well as add new logic to existing code in an effort to improve the overall usability of the application. In particular, I'd like to thank:
Jim Menges – for correcting a bug found within the GetObject Transaction
Stuart White – for providing critical feedback and recommending additional features that helped improve overall usability of the application.
Feedback is always welcome for this document. Remember, without your submissions and input, this document wouldn't exist. Please send your additions, comments and criticisms to the following email address : <restagner@ispwest.com>.
