MODEL TRAMS

Cabin Car 809 at London in 1995There are some excellent models of Liverpool Trams that I have seen over the years. Included is this large scale example of car 809, a Robinson Cabin Car that was seen at a model engineering exhibition in London on 31st of December 1995 and which belongs to David Orchard.

Bellamy CarThis fine model of a Bellamy car (left) can be seen on display at the Museum of Liverpool Life near Albert Dock, Liverpool.

1/16 scale model of car 762 [Photo supplied by David Orchard]Shown here on the right is a picture of another of David Orchard's models, an excellent 1:16 scale model of English Electric car 762. The original tram has now been preserved by the Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society in its earlier Maroon livery and can be seen at Birkenhead. The model here is in its post war green and cream livery.

4mm scale model of car 241Here are some pictures of the model tram system I started working on in 2000. Shown left is "Baby Grand" tram number 241 displaying route 6A details as it would have done in the mid 1950's. The model is at 4mm to the foot scale and based on a kit.

4mm scale model of car 241 The present scope comprises three modules which will connect to make the layout board, the main part of which has scratch-built tram track. It is all designed to operate just like the prototype with the trams getting their power from the overhead wires.

Car 241 has just passed the crossoverThe last two pictures shown here are of 241 going for a test run on the completed trackwork on the main module of "phase 1" of my layout. The module comprises a passing loop and crossover associated with the double track running through it. The test highlighted some adjustments to two of the points. Once they're done it will be ready for the road surface. The construction of the overhead is still quite a long way off, so meanwhile 241 is operated with a flying lead connected between the end of its trolley and the controller!

Car 241 at the passing loopHopefully one day I will get round to completing this!
