We began showing Capella as a puppy, as much for Joanne to learn how to show as for Capella to win. She finished her Championship in August just before her third birthday.
After she finished her Championship she was shown as a "Special" for 3 and a half years. When she retired at the age of 7 she was ranked number 13 in the country and had been as high as number 9, by virtue of the number of dogs defeated. She had won 2 specialty shows where only Siberian Huskies were shown. She had competed for Best In Show at all-breed shows several times. She had also earned an Obedience title. She ran co-lead on our recreational sled tem up until this year, and has gotten compliments from longtime racing buffs who have seen her in harness. She has been on TV a few times and in a J.C. Penney’s catalog. We retired her from active showing, but we showed her occasionally in the Veteran’s class (a special class for dogs over 7 years old), from which she did well. She won the Veteran Bitch class at the National Specialty when she was 9, and was awarded Best Veteran at several specialty shows. She competed for Best Veteran in Show at an all-breed show in Austin. She was awarded the title of "International Champion" by the Alle Rasse Gruppe, who are affiliated with the kennel club in Germany. She has won Best Veteran In Show 3 times at shows sponsored by Alle Rasse Gruppe. She enjoyed showing and sulked if she is not allowed to – once she wiggled out of her collar at a show after we were done and ran back to the ring. She was captured just as she was getting ready to join the Boxers who were in the ring at the time!
Capella was bred twice and then spayed. Her first litter, out of Ch. Skyhope’s Sitka of Battle produced one Champion (Sali) and one bitch who was "major pointed" (Trixie had one of the 2 "major" show wins required to earn a Championship). Her second litter out of Ch. Kontoki’s N’ Bingo Was His Name O produced 3 Champions (Juno, Polaris and Callisto). The others from Capella’s litters are in loving pet homes. Both times Capella required a cesarean section to deliver, and the second time we nearly lost her, she had a ruptured uterus. Even though she had produced some very nice puppies who we loved very much, we decided Capella’s life was worth more to us than the puppies she might have produce in the future.
Capella loved to sleep on the bed and definitely ruled the back yard. She did not fawn on people like some of the other dogs but was very "queenly" in her attitude toward people. Those upon whom she bestows her royal favor felt very special!
Capella took third place in the 11 yr. and over Veteran's class at the 2000 SHCA National Specialty.
Capella took first place in the 13 yr. and over Veteran's sweepstakes at the 2001 SHCA National Specialty.
